The Academy
Saint Scholastica Academy (SSA), founded in 1903, is an all-girls, Catholic, college preparatory high school located forty miles north of New Orleans in the city of Covington.
The faculty is composed of 38 secondary teaching professionals with 58% holding masters degrees or higher. Our student population of approximately 500+ consists of highly motivated, well-rounded students from all socioeconomic strata. St. Scholastica Academy is accredited by Cognia.
Our college preparatory curriculum is required of all students with an accelerated program offered to students meeting the criteria. Honors level courses are offered in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language, as well as Advanced Placement courses in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Fine Arts. Dual enrollment courses are offered to both college-prep and honors students both core and elective coursework through Louisiana State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, Louisiana Tech, and the University of Texas at Austin.
Students complete eight courses per year allowing them to select more electives from SSA's varied and dynamic program of offerings, resulting in a well-rounded educational background with a total of 32 credits for grades 9-12 (a four-year program of studies) or 36 credit for grades 8-12 (a five-year program of studies). Additionally, SSA follows a rotating schedule in which five classes meet per day each for a 75-minute block of time allowing for an in-depth hands-on teaching experience that educators have determined often results not only in increased student achievement, but also greater retention of learning material.
Our demanding curriculum, coupled with individualized instruction resulted in our 2020 graduates earning an average ACT score of 25.4, which is above the state and national average. Ninety-nine percent of our students matriculate to college.
SSA has been a one-to-one computer school for over a decade creating ethical and knowledgeable users of technology. The latest accomplishment at the academy is the completion, in 2019, of a $3.25 million eight classroom building including a TV production studio, Mac lab, and science lab.
